Pennyrile Senior Games sees big turn-out, high competition

It was a full house at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex in Hopkinsville this week, as the 38th annual Pennyrile Senior Games was held.

Hosted by Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation, the games took place Monday and Tuesday and featured various athletic events, from disk golf to pickleball, to cornhole, lawn bowling, a mile walk and much more.

At it was a well-attended Senior Games this year, with Program Coordinator Jacob Gibson saying they had over 200 seniors take part—with the oldest participants being 92 and 95-years-old, respectively.

Gibson says it’s always a blast each year, and it’s great to see so many folks staying up and active well into their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. And he says the Sportsplex has been a blessing for the event.

Seniors from across the Pennyrile region take part in the games, not just to flex their athletic ability and competitive spirit, but also to enjoy a friendly atmosphere and fellowship with others.

The event includes an opening ceremony and then a banquet was held on Wednesday that wraps up the festivities for another year. Photos from the Pennyrile Area Development District.
