September marks National Recovery Month, and on Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear announced that nine agencies across the state were awarded grants to fight drug trafficking.
Over $1.4 million in federal funding from the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Grant was awarded, and locally, the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force received over $251,000. Beshear says funds from the grant will help agencies combat drug trafficking, support crime victims and expand drug prevention programs.
Beshear also says he hopes the funds support Kentucky’s drug overdose death decline. In May, he announced that overdose deaths decreased for the third year in a row.
Along with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Kentucky State Police received over $333,000 from the grant to combat drug trafficking.
