Grand jury returns indictments for assault, criminal child abuse

A Christian County Grand Jury returned numerous indictments last week, including for assault and criminal child abuse.

Twenty-year-old Culliyon McKnight has been indicted for first-degree assault in connection to a shooting incident in July that happened on Boales Street. The shooting itself happened on July 6 and at the time was reported as two separate incidents, where a minor victim was found with gunshot wound to the abdomen and an adult, identified as 20-year-old Culliyon McKnight, was found nearby with a graze wound from a gunshot to the head. The incident happened in the Pennyrile Homes area.

The minor was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment while McKnight was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

McKnight has since been treated and released and is lodged in the Christian County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Also indicted for first-degree assault is 49-year-old Walter Bryson Jr.β€”he’s accused of stabbing a victim with a box-cutter in July at a residence on Pembroke-Oak Grove Road. Bryson reportedly admitted to stabbing the victim but claimed he did so in self-defense.  

Bryson reportedly told officers that he was contacted by the homeowner to do some floor work. He entered the residence through the backdoor and made contact with the victim. Bryson alleges that he and the victim began arguing and they threatened to have one their dogs attack him.

Bryson says he retrieved the box cutter before the victim allegedly hit him with a mop bucket wringer which led to a physical altercation. During the altercation, Bryson reportedly cut the victim with the box cutter.

The grand jury has indicted 26-year-old Brandon Wyatt of Hopkinsville on a count of first-degree criminal abuse against a child under the age of 12. He allegedly intentionally abused a child under the age of 12, resulting in physical injury or placing the victim in a situation where the could be seriously injured.
