Voter registration grows in Ky., especially in the ‘other’ category

Voter registration grew in August, and for the sixth month in a row, registrants in the ‘other’ designation outpaced registrants for both Republicans and Democrats.

According to a news release from the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office, there are 366,406 voters registered under other political affiliations, mostly Independent, making up 11 percent of the electorate. In fact, “other” registration jumped by 1,867. That outpaced Republican and Democratic registrations combined.

Republican registration constitutes 47 percent of the electorate and Democrat registration made up 42 percent.

Also in August, 4,559 voters were removed: 3,590 who were deceased, 429 felony convicts, 416 who moved out of state, 53 who voluntarily de-registered, 51 adjudged mentally incompetent, 13 duplicate registrations, and 7 non-citizens.
