Temperatures to increase while drought conditions remain

Over the weekend, western Kentucky got a taste of fall, but summer is not done yet and temperatures are set to increase as the weekend approaches.

While higher temperatures are expected to return, Forecaster Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah says to start the week, the region will experience some chilly nighttime lows reaching the 40-degree range. He also says drought conditions are set to continue with essentially zero chances of rain in the forecast this week.

As a result of the dryness, Gibbs says river levels have fallen and they are watching out for brush fire conditions, with precipitation chances returning early next week. Before then, Gibbs says the temperatures are set to reach around 90 degrees by Friday and Saturday.

Looking toward next week, Gibbs says temperatures are expected to be above normal while precipitation is expected to remain below normal rates.

Then September 29 through October 3 marks Fall Severe Weather Awareness Week. Gibbs says the weather service will share thunderstorm and tornado development information as well as tips on stay weather prepared.
