Doggie Dip gets all tails wagging at Bluegrass Splash

There was a different kind of visitor to Bluegrass Splash Family Aquatic Center in Hopkinsville Saturday—a furry kind of visitor, with wagging tails and fuzzy faces, as dogs took over for the Doggie Dip.

This was the return of the Doggie Dip after the event went on hiatus during the pandemic, and even though the morning started a bit gray and chilly, that didn’t stop eager canines and happy dog-parents from enjoying a pool day just for the dogs.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson says they had a good turnout, especially after it warmed up some just in time for the larger dogs to hit the water.

There was very little grumbling from the park’s visitors, as the dogs splashed in and out of the water, chasing each other, playing fetch and making new friends. With the passage of the Doggie Dip, Hudson says the water park is officially closed for the season. From here, they’ll start the process of getting it fully cleaned before next summer.

Hudson says that even though the weather played some havoc with the water park’s schedule early this summer, it closed out strong, with many smiling faces coming from all over to cool off and have fun in the summer heat. And some of those faces just happened to include wet noses and whiskery kisses.
