Construction continues at the consolidated Christian County High School, and at Thursday’s meeting, Christian County School Board members received a progress update and approved some change orders.
Kevin Hitchell from Alliance Corporation says construction is on schedule, and they have recently reached multiple milestones, with crews recently erecting the building’s final support beams and pouring the last slab of concrete. Hitchell says construction in the school’s Agriculture Academy is furthest along and is nearing completion.
Then, board members approved seven change orders. Five of the orders focus on the addition of a dumpster pad on the north side of the campus. The current dumpster pad is on the south side of the campus, and Assistant Superintendent Jason Wilson says it would be inconvenient for trash from the opposite side of the building to be transported to that dumpster.
Board Chair Tom Bell says the change orders have resulted in the school’s price tag increasing by around $33,000. Bell says the district is in good financial shape with a contingency fund of around $4.1 million.
Once the change orders were approved, Superintendent Chris Bentzel gave board members a heads-up, telling them to expect more change orders at future meetings.
The Consolidated Christian County High School is set to open to students in August 2026.
