Recovery and rebuilding continue in the wake of the devastating, deadly December 10, 2021 tornado, and on Tuesday, families in Princeton and Mayfield got the keys to their new homes.
According to a news release, those families were joined by Governor Andy Beshear, local officials and representatives with the Hope Initiative. The Hope Initiative is a non-profit partner who has now had a hand in building 55 new homes for tornado survivors across western Kentucky. Funding was made available through the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund, which has committed over $23.1 million to help build 250 homes for tornado survivors in the region.
Susan McIntosh of Princeton welcomed guests to her new home Tuesday, saying, “You all have given me the opportunity to live life in a way I’ve never known. To be able to raise my kids in a safe place that’s theirs is a blessing. You all have given me the opportunity to cook homemade meals for my family and actually sit down together at a table and talk about their day. To be able to put them all in their own beds, say prayers together and live a normal life. Thank you for giving us a chance, for believing in us when no one else ever has before. We so greatly appreciate it.”
Governor Beshear reaffirmed his pledge to assist those who lost everything in that life-altering tornado, saying they’ll be here to help until every structure, and home, is rebuilt.
