In light of a recent shooting at a high school football game in Graves County and the tragedy in Minnesota at a Catholic School that killed two children and badly injured several others, school safety is at the top of everyone’s minds.
School has been in session for two weeks in Christian County, and CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re glad to have a School Resource Officer at every school in the district, along with the guidance of the newly established CCPS Law Enforcement, saying their presence is more necessary than ever before to ensure the safety of students.
He says along with other safety protocols, such as identification badges and weapon detection systems at not just the school, but at high school sporting events, school officials are looking to stay constantly vigilant where it comes to student, and staff, safety.
Bentzel says security will be one of their top priorities at the new Christian County High School, which is set to open in the summer of 2026. He says they’re now in the process of hiring staff for that school, with Executive Principal Ken Carver looking to fill out his staff.
Officials want to give parents and families who are attending events at the Stadium of Champions or other sports that no bags will be allowed inside the facility and everyone must go through the weapon detection systems to enter.
