On Saturday, Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center went to the birds, as over 300 people showed up to third annual Hummingbird Festival.
Hummingbird Festival Chair David Chiles called the event a great success, according to a news release, as hundreds of folks watched experts handle and band real hummingbirds that call the environmental center home. There was no gate fee for this festival, thanks to sponsorships and funds raised during the event.
Festival goers got to learn more about the world’s smallest bird, take part in a poster contest on the value of birds, how to make their own bird feeders, the importance of insects and other pollinators and how to care for birds during the winter months.
The hummingbirds are fueling up for the long flight back south during the fall and winter months, but there’s still time to see the little birds for yourself at Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center.
