The Joy Closet has been a force for good in the community for going on four years now, and they’re inviting the community to come celebrate with them and support the cause at their annual dinner on August 26.
Before getting into the details on that event with WHOP Thursday morning though, Executive-Director Heather Gray says they had wildly successful back-to-school bash events at their locations in Hopkinsville and Earlington, where they were able to supply over 200 children with supplies for the upcoming school year, and get them ready in other ways.
She says that’s thanks to their many volunteers, dedicated staff, donors and community members that support their efforts to help foster and kinship families across a ten-county region. And you have a chance to support them again coming up on August 26.
They’ll host the Joy Closet annual dinner and celebration at New Work Fellowship in Hopkinsville, starting at 6 p.m., and Gray asks that you get your RSVP in by August 18, so they know how many folks to expect.
But then on the morning of the 26th, Gray says they’ll host a new event—they’ll host a faith-based breakfast starting at 9 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Hopkinsville, and it’s for all of their faith-based partners in their service region.
The Joy Closet is a Hopkinsville based nonprofit focused on supporting foster care children and families in the Pennyrile region by providing them with need-based donated items such as clothing, toys and sanitary products. But it has expanded into so much more, from the construction of the new Hope House, to their Eagle Fly program and much more.
Gray says none of it would be possible without the community support they receive, giving the example of recently being able to help a displaced youth celebrate their birthday for the first time.
