After responding to around 20 vehicle break-ins early Tuesday morning, the Elkton Police Department is reinforcing the city’s youth curfew.
The department shared that the thefts occurred on East Main Street, Washington Street, Perry Street, Streets Avenue, Duke Street, Marion Street, Olive Street and College Street. After investigating and reviewing video evidence, officers believe that the crimes were committed by a group of minors, but so far none of the suspects have been identified.
In response to the break ins, the department is reminding the community of the city’s youth curfew ordinance. It is unlawful for those under the age of 18 to be in public without an adult between 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. during the weekend and between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the work week.
If the ordinance is violated, then the child’s parents could be cited by the police.
The department is also calling on the public to help them solve crimes like car break-ins. They are asking citizens who have exterior security cameras to sign up to be a part of directory and if crime occurs near their home, then they may be contacted by police concerning video footage.
