The City of Hopkinsville are urging folks to make sure they’re not blocking any sidewalks, in the name of public safety.
According to a news release, the City is launching a campaign to bring awareness to a local ordinance the prohibits any obstruction of the sidewalk, which includes vehicle, merchandise or any other type of obstruction, without prior authorization.
Officials says a first-time offense gets you a courtesy warning, but after that, repeat violators can receive fines of up to $500, along with the cost of towing the vehicle at the owner’s expense.
Folks who need to use a sidewalk as a temporary parking location and get a free permit from the city, which would ensure that any damage done is repaired for public use.
Keeping the sidewalks clear helps keep the community safer and more accessible for everyone, especially children, seniors and those who use mobility aids.
