The Hopkinsville High School Tigers’ soccer team is hoping that a good mix of senior players and young, talented guys will result in a District 8 championship in 2025.
Tigers’ Head Coach Aaron Hutchison said he has been excited for this season for several years as he watched his young teams mature.
The Tigers, who are playing their final season as Hopkinsville High School before consolidation with Christian County High School next fall, are coming off a District 8 runner-up finish and a 6-13 season.
The good news for Hutchison and the Tigers is sophomore and last year’s leading scorer Erick Hernandez returns to lead the offense. Hernandez scored 12 goals and provided three assists last year.
Senior Gavin Harton, who had three goals a year ago, returns along with senior Alex Ramirez and sophomore Jason Macario.
Hutchison added that senior Rayan Bernal, who moved following his sophomore season but returned prior to 2025, is back and should help provide more scoring for the Tigers.
Defensively, Hoptown returns senior Haydon Cowherd, junior Anthony Evangelista, and sophomore Ethan Fabian in the back.
Junior Raul Rivera, who missed much of last season with an injury, and sophomore Landon Beaulieu will split time at goalkeeper. Beaulieu played in 17 games a year ago and made 95 saves will allowing 53 goals. Rivera played in nine games and made 37 saves while allowing 29 goals.
Junior Lester Macario also is expected to help the Tigers from the midfield spot.
Hutchison said the Tigers will be a much deeper team than the 2024 squad.
Junior Trieu Nguyen, sophomore Sebastian Kiar, and freshmen Ayden Brison and Wilmer Macario are expected to see plenty of time coming off the Tigers’ bench.
Hopkinsville opens its 2025 season Monday night at Ohio County.
