Bird lovers are invited to learn more about the world’s smallest bird at Jeffer’s Bend Environment Center’s third annual Hummingbird Festival.
Many hummingbirds on their migration journeys have temporarily settled down in the region during the summer. Ahead of this year’s festival, volunteers have worked to attract more hummingbirds.
At the festival, attendees can watch hummingbird banders, make bird feeders, explore the botanical garden, participate in a poster making contest and make bids on a hummingbird cake. Along with learning about hummingbirds, attendees can learn more about pollinators, the importance of insects and the Native American folklore that surrounds the little birds.
Folks will also have the chance to win bird feeders and other prizes. The Hummingbird Festival will take over the environmental center on August 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. The festival is free to attend, but donations are welcomed.
