A Hopkinsville woman is facing numerous charges following a pursuit in Madisonville over the weekend.
According to the Madisonville Police Department report, officers responded to area of Madison Square and East Center Street for reports of a reckless driver. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle dragging its rear bumper, so they attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Instead of stopping, the driver—22-year-old Peri Brown of Hopkinsville—allegedly sped through the intersection and got onto I-69. That pursuit continued for several miles, during which she allegedly attempted to ram police cruisers, and at one point reportedly put the car into reverse, nearly hitting an officer and striking a cruiser, causing significant damage.
Officers were able to get the vehicle stopped and take Brown into custody. There were reportedly two small children in the backseat of the car, with one car seat unbuckled, leaning forward against the driver’s side seat.
Brown was taken to the hospital for medical clearance, and then taken to the Hopkins County Jail. She is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, DUI, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, booster seat violations and numerous traffic violations.
