For some fun and competition, the Christian County Cattlemen’s Association is inviting the community to its 26th annual Lonestar Rodeo next weekend.
Association member Josh Bailey appeared on WHOP and discussed what they have planned for this year’s rodeo and how the funds generated from it will go toward academic scholarships.
The rodeo is set for August 15 and 16 and will include bareback and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls breakaway roping, bull riding, entertainment from Rodeo Clown Mighty Mike Wentworth and live music.
Before the rodeo, Bailey says the association will host its youth competition qualifiers on August 13 and will host slack competitions for riders who didn’t qualify for the main rodeo on August 14. On August 15 and 16, the rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m., and Bailey says night one concludes with a performance by country music artist Josh Weathers.
All of the funds generated by the rodeo will go toward academic scholarships for local students. Over the past 26 years, Bailey says the association has awarded $160,000 to students.
Bailey says there are past scholarship winners who have become farmers, teachers, veterinarians and much more. This year, Bailey says they are set to give out nine $2,000 scholarships.
The rodeo and the concert will be at the Western Kentucky Fairgrounds, and tickets are available at lonestarrodeoco.com.
