The Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Individual Assistance for Christian and Todd counties in relation to tornadoes in May—and the Governor has said the state will appeal that decision.
In a letter to the Governor, FEMA determined that based on the results of preliminary damage assessments, they don’t believe the impact to individuals and households in Christian or Todd County was severe enough or had enough magnitude to warrant the designation for the Individual Assistance program.
FEMA has also denied the governor’s request for the Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant program for both the April flooding and the May tornadoes.
It was also reported that the impact to infrastructure in Leslie County is not of the severity and magnitude to warrant their designation under the Public Assistance program.
Governor Beshear, “While we appreciate the Individual Assistance and Public Assistance we were granted for most of the affected areas, we are disappointed in the decision. We are actively comparing the damage assessments, and we plan to appeal.”
