Several southern Pennyrile high school volleyball teams will be traveling to Lexington this weekend to play in the Bluegrass State Games.
Christian County, which is one of the favorites to win the Region 2 championship this year, will play Friday afternoon at Lexington Lafayette.
The Lady Colonels, who are coming off a 13-19 season a year ago, will take on Thomas Nelson at 2 p.m. and will play Louisville DuPont Manual at 3 p.m. in pool play.
The Lady Crimsons finished 29-11 and lost to Assumption in the Region 7 championship a year ago. Meanwhile, Thomas Nelson finished 17-14 a year ago.
Defending Region 2 champion Heritage Christian Academy and first-year coach Will Bruce is scheduled to play Friday at Frederick Douglass High School against Covington Holy Cross at 4 p.m. and Logan County at 5 p.m.
The Lady Warriors, who finished 24-6 last season, will have a young team in 2025 and will face a Covington Holy Cross squad that went 19-17 a year ago. Logan County is coming off a 20-15 season.
University Heights Academy will play Friday night at Woodford County High School against Garrard County at 8 p.m. and Bell County at 9 p.m.
The Lady Blazers are coming off an 8-22 season and will be a young squad again in 2025.
Coach Faye Hendricks’ team will take on a Garrard County squad that was 12-19 a year ago and Bell County, which went 28-11 a year ago.
Todd County Central also is playing Friday at Lexington Henry Clay. The Lady Rebels will play Murray at 7 p.m. and Owensboro Catholic at 8 p.m.
Other Region 2 teams playing in the Bluegrass State Games include Caldwell County, Henderson County, and Crittenden County.
