Both TriStar, St. Thomas Clarksville hospital proposals approved by state commission

Healthcare in Clarksville and surrounding areas is about to expand greatly, as both St. Thomas and TriStar Health have received approval to build two new hospitals in the Clarksville area.

The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission has approved the proposal for a Certificate of Need for both TriStar Health and Ascension Saint Thomas, who can now move forward with their plans to construct new hospitals in the Clarksville area.

For St. Thomas, the approved facility will be located at the intersection of Highway 76 and Interstate 24 and will be home to 44 inpatient beds with the capacity to expand to 132 beds in the future. This project is a $148.5 million investment and reflects the creation of roughly 250 new healthcare jobs.

Meanwhile, TriStar health intends to build their approved facility on Tiny Town Road, and it will have a 68-bed capacity and include services such as a 12-bed Emergency Room, a 10-bed Labor and Delivery Unit, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and two cardiac catheterization labs, imaging services, four operating rooms and more.  It reflects a $286 million investment.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts issued a statement on the approval and the large turnout to public hearings held on the separate facilities, saying, “I was deeply honored to be in attendance among the large Clarksville contingent on hand, and to have the opportunity to speak in favor of these proposals to significantly enhance healthcare in our great, and rapidly-growing City.”

He continues, “Be assured that we value, and sincerely appreciate the long-standing healthcare services that are already in our midst. I think we can all agree that, with the unsolicited growth we are currently experiencing – growth that stems from many national, and global, as well as local and regional factors – we have to be in a mindset of building a healthcare enterprise in Clarksville and Montgomery County that keeps up with the soaring demand.”
