The Hoptown Hoppers will open their Ohio Valley Conference best-of-three semifinal series with the Full Count Rhythm tonight in Hendersonville, Tenn.
Hoptown advanced to the series with an 8-3 win over host Henderson on Sunday night.
The No. 5 seed Hoppers are 17-21 entering the series against the regular season champion Rhythm, who are 25-12.
Airtime for tonight’s game is 6:50 p.m. on 95.3 the farm and 953thefarm.com.
Game 2 will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Christian County High School.
The other semifinal series begins tonight with No. 3 seed Fulton taking on the No. 2 seed Paducah Chiefs at 6:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the league announced on Monday that Full Count’s John Paul Head was named the Cubb Stokes Most Valuable Offensive Player Award.
Head dominated the league offensive statistical categories, leading the OVL in batting average (.450), runs batted in (47), hits (58), on-base percentage (.574), slugging percentage (.736), and doubles (11). He also finished second in home runs with eight.
John Paul will be a sophomore at the University of Alabama-Birmingham this fall and is a native of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
In addition, the Paducah Chiefs’ Hayden Alexander was named the Gordon Guess Most Valuable Pitcher.
Hayden led the league in earned run average (1.77), wins (3 in six starts), strikeouts (52), WHIP (1.24), and batting average against (.196) over 39.2 innings. He also picked up two saves for the Chiefs.
Hayden, a native of Mayfield, Kentucky, will play at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, this fall.
