Margaret Prim the executive director of the Pennyoral Arts Council appeared at Thursday’s Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club meeting to spotlight the Alhambra Theatre’s upcoming season and her plans to ensure the local arts continue to flourish.
The theatre’s 2024-2025 season concluded at the end of June and Prim called it a successful show run. She also shared that last year around 41,000 people came to the Alhambra for shows and of those patrons, 4,300 came from outside of Christian County.
The 2025-26 season of Live at the Alhambra kicks off in October with “One Night in Memphis” which is a tribute show to Sun Records recording artists Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis.
The season then continues with the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, Sean of the South, Alfreda Sings Tina Turner, An Evening with Sade and will conclude with a performance by The SteelDrivers. Season tickets are current on sale.
During the summer, Prim says the theatre is set to receive an audio system upgrade. With the current system, Prim shared that sound does not evenly reach audience members sitting toward the back or in the balcony of the theatre and the upgrade will fix that.
Prim is also focusing on fundraising to ensure future of the theatre. The Hoptown Holiday Hopfest is coming back in November and Singer-Songwriter Deana Carter will be performing. Over the past 10 years the fest has raised over $110,000 for the theatre.
Prim says the council is also working toward starting a capital campaign to create a council endowment fund.
