KSP looking to crack down on impaired driving this holiday weekend

Kentucky State Police will be taking part in Operation C.A.R.E this holiday weekend—also known as the Crash Awareness Reduction effort.

It is already underway and will continue until Monday, with KSP troopers out in full force to prevent impaired driving and keep roadways safe during one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.

Data shows that in 2024, there were 3,762 crashes that involved alcohol throughout Kentucky and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 2,653 people killed nationwide in motor vehicle traffic crashes over the Fourth of July holiday period from 2019 to 2023. Forty percent of the drivers killed were impaired.

So, to stay safe this Fourth of July weekend, use good judgement and plan a safe, sober ride home and never get behind the wheel impaired. If you’re hosting a party, check with your guests on how they’re getting home safe if there’s drinking involved, and remember, friends don’t let friends drive drunk.
