Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation has full slate of summer fun events planned

The Fourth of July long holiday weekend is upon us, but don’t worry—the summer fun is set to continue well after the summer holiday comes to an end.

Speaking with WHOP recently, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Programs Coordinator Jacob Gibson says the popular Hoptown Throwdown returns to Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville on July 11 as part of their Sounds at Six event. He says folks will get to hear live music from country music artist Court Taylor out of Nashville, while also enjoy food and drinks, and playing games.

Attendees are encouraged to throw on the cowboy boots and hat and get ready to dance—the free event starts at 6 p.m. July 11.

The Hoptown Hose Down events with the Hopkinsville Fire Department also continue throughout the summer, with the next cooling experience set to take place July 15 at the Boys and Girls Club on Walnut Street at 1 p.m. before the last one wraps up on August 12at Joe Mumford Park.

Then, in a salute to the end of summer, the Summer Salute will take place a little later in the year this time around, set for September 12 and September 13. Gibson says they’ll have two-days of stellar food, plenty of vendors, and the musical acts of Shinning Star on Friday followed by Saved by the Music—before Saturday brings the headline act of country music artist Easton Corbin, with the Frontmen the opening act.

All concerts are free to attend.  In fact, the Summer Salute as a whole is free to attend—though definitely bring some cash to spend on food and merchandise—and Gibson says this year the carnival rides will be back.

The gates open at 11 a.m. both days and the festival will close up show at 10 p.m. For a full schedule of events, go online to hoptownsummersalute.com.
