If you love hot temperatures and summer time, then this week might just be the one for you—but there is a Heat Advisory in effect until at least the weekend, so make sure you’re staying safe while you’re enjoying the sun.
And they are not kidding when they say it’s going to be hot—Warning Coordination Meteorologist Christine Weilgos with the National Weather Service in Paducah says temperatures will be in the upper 90’s and then the humidity will pop the heat index values into up to 105 degrees in some areas.
Part of the problem, she says, is that the humidity won’t let the temperatures drop much even at night, which means there’s not much relief to be had.
There could be some minor relief from the heat in the event a scatter storm or rain shower manages to develop, but any thing that did develop would be short-lived and widely scattered—most folks won’t see any precipitation at all.
The heatwave is expected to continue into the weekend, so Weilgos encourages everyone to stay hydrated, stay in air-conditioning as much as possible, and keep close watch on those who will be most vulnerable to the heat, such as those who are pregnant, young children and the elderly.
In the 8-to-14 day outlook, it’s looking like we’ll have above average temperatures, with above average chances for precipitation.
