W. E. “Petey” Rogers, former Commonwealth’s Attorney, passes away

The communities of Hopkinsville and Cadiz are bidding a mournful farewell to one of their own, as former Christian County Commonwealth’s Attorney W.E. “Petey” Rogers III has passed away.

Rogers passed at the age of 88 at his home in Cadiz, where he was a devoted member of Cadiz Methodist Church—he sang with the choir and assisted with vacation bible school. He was a proud alum of Vanderbilt University, where he graduated from law school in 1962.

He would go on to have a career as a successful and respected attorney that spanned over six decades, including serving as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 3rd Judicial Circuit from 1982 until 1993. He also had his own private practice with W.E. Rogers Law Office in Hopkinsville.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie McCormick Rogers, along with six children, a sister, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home—funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 18. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville.
