The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance is celebrating after hosting a record-breaking youth fishing event in Earlington at the end of May.
According to a news release, over 250 children and their families joined the Alliance, the Hopkins County Sportsmen and Sportswomen Club and the City of Earlington at Lochmary Lake for a day of fishing fun with the Third Annual Take Kids Fishing Day there.
This year’s event even drew support from beyond Kentucky, as members from numerous Kansas IUE-CWA, who were in town for national bargaining agreement events in Ohio, stopped in to lend a hand—some on the grill and others rigging rods for eager fishers.
There were 260 kids on hand, and with their family, there were a total of 377 people on hand, catching fish, enjoy food and have a day of good community fun.
Maggie Sager, the Conservation Coordinator, says, “At its core, Take Kids Fishing Day is much more than fishing. It’s about passing down traditions, building connections, and creating memories that last far beyond a Saturday in June. It’s proof that when unions and communities come together with a shared purpose, great things can happen.”
