Hoppers earn 1st win, roll past Paducah

The Hoptown Hoppers scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and rode the arm of Collin Toedter to pick up their first OVL win of the season, a 12-1, seven-inning romp over host Paducah on Tuesday night.

Toedter went six innings, giving up five hits and striking out three to pick up the win.

At the plate, the Hoppers had 11 hits as Chance Sweeney, Dom Bello, and Kolby Webb each collected a pair of hits.

Hoptown grabbed an 8-0 lead after the top half of the first inning using four hits and taking advantage of three Chiefs errors. Grady Broughton’s two-run double was the big hit in the frame.

Paducah (4-4) got one run back in the bottom of the second, but the Hoppers pushed their advantage to 8-1 in the fourth and 11-1 after five.

Hoptown hit into a double play in the top of the seventh but Cole Reynolds scored on the play to make the score 12-1.

Owen Boswell pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Hoppers (1-7).

Webb, Owen Hutcheson, and Broughton each drove in two runs for the Hoppers.

Hoptown returns to action tonight at home against Fulton at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free tonight and airtime is 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
