Kentucky legislators may not be in session at the moment—but that doesn’t mean the Kentucky General Assembly isn’t busy during the interim.
In a brief update, Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says discussions are already underway about what might come up for consideration during the 2026 session, and of course, the main topic will be the budget.
Law-makers will have to craft a two-year-spending plan, and Thomas says that takes a lot of work way before the session begins.
He says citizens can have a role in the process—you can have your voice heard by either calling him, or sending an email to walker.thomas@kylegisture.gov.
There may even be a special session in the works, after Governor Andy Beshear has indicated he could call one to address a disaster relief spending cap of $100 million set down by the legislature during the 2025 session.
No word yet on when a special session might be called.
