Hoppers bats struggle in loss to Paducah Chiefs

The Hoptown Hoppers wasted a great pitching performance by former Hopkinsville High School star Gavin Powell and fell to visiting Paducah 2-0 on Tuesday night in OVL baseball.

Powell allowed only three hits and an unearned run through seven innings. The future Dyersburg State Community College player, suffered the pitching loss as the Hoppers’ offense struggled against Chiefs’ pitching. Hoptown had only two hits on the night.

The Chiefs (3-1) scored in the top of the seventh on a two-out error. Paducah added another run in the top of the ninth using a pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt.

Kolby Webb and Dom Bello had the only hits for the Hoppers.

For the Chiefs, Brevin Scott, Alex Calhoun, and Cooper Culberson teamed to toss the two-hitter.

Hoptown falls to 0-4 on the season and is scheduled to play tonight at Fulton (1-3), which defeated Henderson Tuesday night for its first win of the season.
