The TVA reports that May really was as rainy as it seemed

If you felt like it just wouldn’t stop raining in May, then the numbers are proving you right.

The Tennessee Valley Authority River Forecast Center is reporting that both April and May were above normal for rainfall—as of June 1, the TVA is at about 124 percent of normal rainfall for the calendar year in the Tennessee River Basin.

In fact, this was the third wettest May on record in the 135 years that the TVA has been keeping track of those numbers.  The average rainfall for the month was approximately 8.1 inches in the basin, with the normal level begin about 4.3 inches.

That brings the rainfall in the Tennessee Valley was 188 percent about normal for the month of May.

That means that all but one of the TVA reservoirs are already at summer elevations.
