Pennyroyal Hospice to host camp helping children dealing with the loss of a loved one

Pennyroyal Hospice is inviting children in the community who have experienced the loss of a loved one to their Kamp Sunrise.

Kamp Sunrise is a one-day grief camp where children ages six through 17-years-old can have a fun, therapeutic place to process their grief amongst others who know that pain and can help them with it. This year’s Kamp Sunrise is set for June 27 from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Living Hope Baptist Church at 6305 Eagle Way Bypass.

Organizer Kim Baggett with Pennyroyal Hospice says this group setting not just allows children to have fun, but help each other through a time of loss that is difficult for anyone, much less a child.

She says this free program is open to all children from surrounding communities, and their family member did not have to be a patient of Hospice for them to take part.

Baggett says she remembers wondering if this setting would really work—and then she got to witness these children have others to lean on, and knew they would be okay.

Kamp Sunrise incorporates all types of therapy practices, from art and music, to learning practical coping strategies that the children can then take with them into their every day lives.
