It was a big weekend for a pair of former local high school baseball stars in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Former Hopkinsville High School and Heritage Christian Academy pitcher J.J. Thompson and the Wright State Raiders eliminated No. 1 overall seed Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon before seeing their run in the tournament come to an end Sunday night to Louisville in the Nashville Region final.
Thompson pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up three runs and five hits while striking out three in a 6-0 loss to the Cardinals.
Wright State’s season ended with a 40-21 record.
Meanwhile, former Hopkinsville High School pitcher Preston Chaudoin pitched two innings in the Racers’ 19-8 loss to No. 10 seed Ole Miss on Sunday night in the Oxford Regional final. Chaudoin pitched two innings and gave up two runs and four hits while striking out one.
The Racers and Rebels will meet tonight to determine who will move on to the Super Regionals next weekend. Murray State defeated Ole Miss on Friday night and Georgia Tech on Saturday to reach Sunday night’s final. The Racers enter tonight’s game with a 41-14 record.
