Senator Paul opposes Trump’s omnibus budget bill

President Donald Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” passed in the House of Representatives and now heads over to the Senate, but Kentucky Senator Rand Paul announced that he firmly stands against it.

The omnibus bill focuses on tax cuts for individuals and businesses, border security, spending cuts and changes to Medicare and Medicaid. On Sunday’s episode of “Face the Nation” Paul calls the bill a vehicle for increasing military and border wall spending. He says the bill includes $320 billion in new spending and inflated border wall costs.

Overall, Paul says the bill requests too much money, and would increase government spending following federal job cuts made by the temporary Department of Government Efficiency.

Trump and Paul had a recent conversation concerning tariffs, and Paul says they do not see eye to eye. In Kentucky, Paul has talked with many people in many industries that could be impacted by tariffs and says he has not received any positive feedback concerning tariffs.

Paul says Republicans were once for lower taxes and tariffs would do the opposite.

Paul says there are other Senate Republicans who also oppose the bill and would be surprised if it passes without any modification. Paul supports the tax cuts, but is against raising the debt ceiling and would like to see it removed from the bill.

Paul’s appearance on “Face the Nation” is available on YouTube.
