As summer nears, the Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library is inviting readers of all ages to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Program and are kicking it off with a party on Saturday.
Readers in the program will track their reading hours and for every five hours logged, readers will earn a ticket which they can enter in a raffle to win a variety of prizes.
Youth Services Librarian Kiwana Bridges says she is taking readers to the circus for Saturday’s kick-off party. The party is set to include, stilt walkers, hula hoop performers, face painters and balloon artists and much more.
At the celebration, Bridges says folks can register for the program and also learn about more events the library is hosting. Program participants are divided into four categories for ages 0 to 4, ages 5 to 15, ages 13 to 17 and ages 18 and older. While some people might think the library only serves kids, Bridges reminds folks that they are there to serve people of all ages and will have reading prizes for adults.
Some of the prizes include digital cameras, Stanley Cups, headphones, a tricycle, foldable couches and gift cards. Along with offering prizes, Bridges says she is happy to promote literacy.
The program concludes on July 12 with a circus themed party where tickets will be drawn for prizes.
The kick-off party takes over the library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and more information about library events is available at hccpl.org.
