University Heights Academy track athletes are preparing for the KHSAA Class 1-A State Track and Field Meet today in Lexington.
The Blazers have several athletes who are vying for state titles.
Leading the way is senior Griffin McCoy, who won the 100- and 200-meter dashes last week at the Class 1-A, Region 1 meet at Caldwell County High School. McCoy ran the 100-meters in 11.17 seconds and the 200-meters in 23.14 seconds.
Senior Cole Glover will be taking aim at a state title in two events. Glover took second in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run last week at the region in 4:51.02 and 10:54.71, respectively.
UHA’s 400-meter relay team of Tobias Duncan, Chase Lester, Logan Miller, and Harlow Hampton will be chasing a state title after winning the region in 3:28.80.
For the Lady Blazers, two of its relay teams are looking for strong performances today. The 200-meter relay team of Ajae Oatts, Palin Hampton, Emma Dill, and Alivia Acree took second at region in 1:52.73. The 400-meter relay team of Acree, Dill, Hampton, and Oatts also was second at region in 4:25.07.
Individually, the Lady Blazers will be well represented as Dill is the region champion in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.90. Teammate Harper Bolinger also will be seeking a state title in the 300-meter hurdles. She was second at region in 53.79 seconds.
Oatts will be competing in the 200-meter dash after taking second place in region in 28.54 seconds.
The Class 2-A State meet is Friday and will include Hopkinsville High School. Christian County athletes will compete in the Class 3-A meet on Saturday.
