The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers had a tough, but short day in the Region 2 Softball Tournament Monday morning at Webster County High School.
Defending state champion and region favorite Henderson County rolled to a 16-0, three-inning victory over the Lady Blazers to move into Tuesday’s semifinals. The Lady Colonels will play Madisonville-North Hopkins at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Maroons ousted Trigg County 5-4 in the second quarterfinal game.
UHA’s leadoff batter Katherine Wood reached base after being hit by a pitch. Ann Hampton reached base in the top of the second after being hit by a pitch. That was it as far as baserunners for the Lady Blazers, who saw their season end at 5-10.
Meanwhile, the No. 2-ranked Lady Colonels struck for 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Henderson used seven walks, three hit batsmen, four hits, and a UHA error to do the damage.
Henderson added three runs in the bottom of the second inning using three more walks and an error along with two hits. The big hit in the inning was a two-run triple by Ayden Bennett.
Wood suffered the pitching loss for UHA.
Henderson County improved to 29-6 on the season.
