In a game that took more than two hours to complete, the host University Heights Academy Lady Blazers outlasted Fort Campbell 22-12 Monday night in their District 8 Softball Tournament semifinal.
UHA took advantage of 22 walks and moved into tonight’s championship game against Christian County at 7 p.m. The Lady Blazers and Lady Colonels did not meet in the regular season as UHA had to forfeit the game.
Madison Williams went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead the Lady Blazers (5-8). Brooke Hancock and Gracie Ausenbaugh both drove in three runs.
The Lady Blazers secured the win with an eight-run fifth inning that broke open a 14-12 game.
Olivia Oakley entered the game in relief and picked up the pitching win for UHA. The senior walked two and allowed only one hit in 1 1/3 innings.
Ausenbaugh and Williams both had triples and Oakley stole three bases in the game.
UHA had taken a 9-2 lead into the fourth inning, but the Lady Falcons (7-9) scored nine runs to take an 11-9 advantage. However, UHA responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and were not threatened again.
