Hopkinsville Salvation Army Lieutenant David Donegan shared his vision for the Life Navigation Center, a facility that will consolidate community resources.
Donegan announced the plans at Monday’s Pennyrile Area Development District meeting and shared some blueprints. Donegan says their shelter is 50 years old and the building housing the Life Navigation Hub is 71 years old. He says it’s time for new buildings and the Life Navigation Center will place the Salvation Army’s services and other community resources under one roof to support those in need.
The first floor of the center will include a large dining area, a kitchen, office and counseling rooms, showers, a classroom and a recreation area for children.
Then the second floor of the center will include temporary housing and shelter for individual adults and families. Donegan says he plans to make the residential area accessible to occupants 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The current Salvation Army shelter is only open during evening and nighttime hours.
The center is set to be constructed in the footprint of the current Salvation Army on East 7th Street. Donegan did not provide timeline for the project.
