While a lot of Christian County has dried out and moved on from April’s historic flooding, several areas still remain water covered, particularly the Oak Grove area.
It’s been over a month since over a foot of rain fell across western Kentucky, and while water is dropping, several roads remain flooded, including KY 117 between the zero and two mile-markers, KY 695 near the four mile-marker and KY 115 at the four mile-marker.
State Representative Myron Dossett says he’s been in contact with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and they’re hopeful that water will recede fully from the roadway in the coming week. But in the meantime, he’s been hearing reports that people are trying to drive through that water, and he urges just a little more patience, saying driving in flood waters can quickly become dangerous.
Apart from the state roads, several county roads also remain covered by water, particularly the Darby Park area of Oak Grove in the Man O’ War Boulevard area, where several homes still have water high up the sides.
Federal disaster assistance has been approved for 13 counties, including Christian County, so make sure you file your damage documentation with FEMA to start the process of getting federal assistance, if you experienced damage or losses in April’s flooding and severe storms.
