Fourth-ranked McCracken County held off host Hopkinsville 2-1 in a high school baseball game Monday night.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the first inning on three straight singles but hit into a double play to end the threat. From there, McCracken County held the Tigers’ bats to only one hit the rest of the way.
However, Hoptown finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chase Fort singled and moved Dylan Sweeney to third base. Sweeney, who had walked, came in to score on a fielder’s choice by Gavin Powell to cut the lead to 2-1.
Andrew Mayes pitched a five-hitter but suffered the pitching loss. Fort went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers.
Hoptown will look to stay in contention for the top spot in the District 8 standings tonight as it will play host to Heritage Christian Academy at 6 p.m. Airtime for the game is 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
The Tigers enter tonight’s game 11-10 overall and 4-2 in the district standings. HCA is 6-12 overall and 0-6 in the district.
