Carrie Ovey-Wiggins the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 56th Judicial Circuit will temporarily serve as the special commonwealth’s attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit following the death of Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Stacy.
Stacy passed away in a single-vehicle wreck on April 29 in Hickman County. Stacy served as the commonwealth’s attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit, which includes Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman Counties since 2006 until his death.
Ovey-Wiggins will temporarily serve as the commonwealth’s attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit while also serving as the attorney for Caldwell, Livingston, Lyon and Trigg counties in the 56th Judicial Circuit.
According to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office, Ovey-Wiggins will have the support of two assistant commonwealth’s attorneys, a commonwealth’s detective, a victim advocate, an administrative assistant already serving in the office and the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit.
Attorney General Russell Coleman says Ovey-Wiggins has an incredible reputation, work ethic and dedication to the people in west Kentucky and is grateful for her willingness to take on additional responsibilities. Ovey-Wiggins will serve in the position until Governor Andy Beshear makes an appointment or voters elect a new commonwealth’s attorney.
