The Christian County Colonels football team started week two of spring drills on Monday and second-year head coach Ethan Atchley said he is excited about his young team.
Atchley said he expects to have around 60 players out for football this spring. They got in three days of work last week along with some lifting. He expects more of the same this week.
Atchley said he has a talented group of freshmen and it’s been his goal to get them in and get them acclimated to high school football.
During the offseason starting quarterback Jaiden Williams moved out of state leaving the Colonels with a huge hole to fill at signal caller. But Atchley said he has some strong candidates to lead the Colonels’ offense.
Several of the Colonels’ key playmakers transferred during the offseason. But Atchley said he has confidence in the mix of older players returning along with his younger group.
Atchley said he has confidence in his younger players and that this group has potential to have a good season.
Atchley said he doesn’t have plans for a spring game, but may put together some form of 11-on-11 scrimmage at the end of the spring drills. Christian County is coming off a 1-10 season and is scheduled to open its 2025 season at home on Aug. 23 against Clarksville Northeast.
It will be the final season as Colonels for Christian County as the school will consolidate with Hopkinsville in 2026 and become the Christian County Tigers.
