It’s a Friday night showdown at University Heights Academy tonight when the Christian County Colonels take on the Blazers with first place in the District 8 baseball standings on the line.
First pitch tonight is scheduled for 6 p.m. with airtime set for 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
Christian County enters the game at 12-10 overall and 5-1 in the district standings. The Colonels knocked off the Blazers 8-3 two weeks ago at Colonel Field.
Since then, the 23rd-ranked Blazers have reeled off seven straight wins and are 13-5 on the season. They are 4-1 in the district standings.
UHA coach Scott Gentry said his team took the loss to heart.
During the seven-game win streak, UHA has defeated No. 6-ranked South Warren, No. 11 Greenwood, and No. 21 Paducah Tilghman.
Christian County Coach Cole Isom knows the Blazers want revenge from the last game.
While the Blazers have some impressive wins on the season, the Colonels also have top-25 wins over South Warren, UHA, Barren County, and Lyon County.
Isom said his team and UHA have a lot more similarities.
If Christian County wins tonight, the Colonels would be in the driver’s seat for the top spot in the District tournament with only a district game against Hopkinsville next Friday remaining. If the Blazers win tonight, they would have the advantage for the top spot with district games remaining against Fort Campbell and Heritage Christian Academy.
Gentry knows that tonight’s game is going to have a post-season feel to it.
Both teams have a full stable of pitchers available for tonight’s game. Christian County could use Nolan Young, Eddie Davis, Sebastian Dazey, or Drew Fincham. The Blazers have available to them Jaiden Miles, Hayden Hunt, Ryan Luckey, and Jackson Flynn.
