After being diagnosed with Leukemia in April, Chase Pemberton’s family is partnering with Blood Assurance to host a blood drive on Monday, May 5 to help those with conditions or injuries that require blood transfusions.
Chase’s father, Don Pemberton appeared on WHOP on Thursday to talk about his son and the blood drive. Pemberton says a few weeks ago his son was diagnosed with Leukemia and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and blood treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Pemberton says his son’s care team mentioned that blood banks in the area are dealing with shortages which led to the organization of the blood drive.
The blood drive will be at First Christian Church in Hopkinsville and walk-ins are welcome, but Pemberton says folks can register for a time slot at bloodassurrance.org/chase to avoid a wait time. Donors are advised to have a good meal prior, drink plenty of water and bring their I.D.
Those who donate blood will also have the chance to receive gift certificates for Bar B Que Shack and anyone who donates blood from May 1 to May 15 is eligible to win a charcoal grill. Pemberton says it has warmed Chase’s heart to see the community rally behind this cause.
Pemberton says Chase is awaiting a bone marrow transplant and his care team is optimistic about his recovery. The blood drive is set for Monday from noon to 6 p.m. at the church which is located at 2601 South Walnut Street.
