CCPS hosts ribbon cutting ceremony for Cub Cruiser

After it was unveiled in December, educators and youth from Christian County Public Schools cut the ribbon on the new mobile early learning classroom, the Cub Cruiser on Tuesday.

The Cub Cruiser is a refurbished school bus that will now be a traveling classroom for children ages five and younger and will bring early childhood learning opportunities to families, share information concerning support programs and perform preschool evaluations.

School Readiness Coordinator Kaitlynne Bolinger led the effort to establish the Cub Cruiser and will be operating the bus. Bolinger says the mobile classroom will travel across the district to help get children ready for kindergarten.

Bolinger says the Cub Cruiser is a great tool for getting families involved in the learning process. Educators will be able to model early learning tips and methods for parents.

The Cub Cruiser already ventured into the community earlier in the month while schools were closed due to the flooded roadways. Bolinger says the Cub Cruiser made stops at the Stadium of Champions and Ruff Park to bring some learning opportunities to kiddos while schools were closed.

The mobile classroom will operate year-round starting in June. Bolinger says the bus will be operating two days a week during the summer and during the school year it will be operating on Fridays.

Bolinger calls it a dream seeing the Cub Cruiser turned into a reality. Along with refurbishing the bus, Bolinger had to get her commercial driver’s license which was a challenge, but she says she is proud to have it because it means she can travel across the county bringing learning opportunities to early learners.

Once the cruiser starts operating, its times and locations will be available at Kindergarten Readiness Program – Christian County Public Schools on Facebook.
