After experiencing major flooding earlier this month, Governor Andy Beshear issued requests for an additional 16 counties to receive federal assistance on Tuesday.

This request is among others sent to FEMA that seek aid for families and communities affected by the April Floods. Beshear is requesting individual assistance for Bullitt, Calloway, Grayson, Hancock, Hart, Henderson, Jefferson, Lincoln,  McLean, Meade, Nelson, Ohio,  Powell, Trimble, Warren and Webster counties.

Beshear also requested Public Assistance in 64 counties where FEMA validated damages and renewed his request for hazard mitigation in the entire state.

According to a news release from the governor’s office, Beshear announced earlier in the week that President Donald Trump approved a request made on April 11, allowing for 13 counties affected by the recent flooding to receive financial assistance.

The first 13 counties approved included Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford counties.

Beshear commented on the matter, saying that as he had promised, they are asking the president to approve more federal aid. He adds that the funds are crucial in helping Kentucky families and communities rebuild.
