We’re officially at the halfway mark for the 75th WHOP Rotary Radio Auction, with $42,764.30 raised Wednesday and two more community grants handed out.
That brings the total raised so far up to $250,829.92, just passing the quarter of a million dollars mark, but with three nights left to go, there’s plenty of chances left to donate to the cause, or grab some dinner from the diner, or bid on something during the live auction.
Auction Chair Landan Stallons says they’re very happy with what they’ve raised so far, but they are still trailing some behind last year’s total, so they’re hoping to make that up by Saturday night.
He says they’ve lowered the prices of the famous Boston Butts down to $40, but if that doesn’t suit your fancy, then there’s plenty to choose from at the Diner and Sweetshop.
Two more community grants were handed out during Wednesday night’s festivities—one went to the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville to support their Summer Music Camps for area youth, and the other went to West Kentucky FCA—Area 3 for their Youth Leadership Camps for those students who are involved in athletics.
Stallons says the community grants are done through an application process, and he says they’re on track to hand out a historic amount of funds.
All money raised helps support the longstanding Rotary Scholarship Program, which allows scholars to attend two years at Hopkinsville Community College tuition free.
While the auction plays a big part in the fundraising, the real heart of the Rotary Auction is the Hour and Goat Clubs, where citizens can donate at least $189, which covers the cost of one credit hour at HCC.
The festivities continue through Saturday, so there’s still plenty of time to donate to the cause! You can go in person at the War Memorial Building, listen live on WHOP 98.7 Lite FM, watch on Spectrum Channel 376 or the Hopkinsville Rotary Club YouTube page.
