The Hopkinsville Rotary Radio Auction is off to a strong start, raising over $100,000 during the first night of auction, and they’re looking to keep that momentum going.
With $103,203.76 under their belt for the opening night, that reflects 105 items sold on the auction for $9,238, $118,125 raised through the Hour and Goat Clubs and roughly $2,840.76 from the Diner and Sweet Shop. That’s roughly $3,500 ahead of last year’s opening night.
The festivities continue Tuesday evening, with the diner opening for dinner at 5 p.m.—but they’ll be open in time for lunch Tuesday, and the remainder of the week. On top of that, Rotarian Jim Dulin says you can purchase a whole Boston Butt at any time, just give them a call and they’ll save one for you.
Auction Chair Landan Stallons says they were glad to see the auction start so fast-paced, and they’re looking for even more donations of auction items.
He says Rotarians handed out two community grants Monday—one to the Pennyroyal Arts Council and the other to the Hopkinsville Art Guild, both of whom host art programs for youth in the community.
The bread and butter of the Rotary Auction however is the Hour Club and the Goat Clubs. The Hour Club is for donations of $189, which covers one tuition hour at Hopkinsville Community College—and Rotary Scholars get two years at HCC tuition free. The Goat Club is a long-standing tradition for Rotary, and they’ll accept donations of any amount.
You can listen to the auction live on WHOP at 98.7 Lite FM, watch it on the Hopkinsville Rotary Club Facebook page or Spectrum Channel 376—or head down to the War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville to watch it live and grab a bite to eat.
