With District 8 baseball games looming on Saturday and next Friday night, the Hopkinsville Tigers jumped back into the thick of the district race with an easy 16-1, three-inning win over visiting Fort Campbell Friday night.
The Tigers (8-6, 2-1) defeated Fort Campbell 11-0 on Thursday night on Post.
Friday, they wasted little time, scoring six runs taking advantage of walks and a two-run single from Chase Fort.
The Falcons (2-11, 1-5) walked 18 Hoptown batters on the night as the Tigers only collected four hits.
Hopkinsville pushed the lead to 13-0 after two innings using three hits. Gavin Mitchell had a double and Ryan Martin and Deuce Embrey each singled in the inning.
Fort Campbell got on the board in the top of the third on a single by Michael Anderson.
However, the Tigers ended the game in the third with three more runs.
Fort and Mitchell each drove in three runs for Hoptown. Embrey and Martin both had two RBI.
Embrey also picked up the pitching win, striking out five and walking one while only allowing two hits in three innings.
Jayden Kellum stole three bases on the night as the Tigers swiped six in the game.
Hopkinsville is scheduled to play at Heritage Christian Academy at noon on Saturday in a District 8 game. After a home game against McLean County on Monday, Hoptown will have a showdown against Christian County at Tiger Stadium next Friday in a key District 8 matchup.
